I didn't get here by chance

My history has shaped who I am and what I've become

Hi, I'm Mike

I’ve been a full-time entrepreneur since I was 23.  My first business was an ice cream store. It was a complete failure. I didn’t want to listen to anyone’s opinions about this business and I never did any research. I’ve been saving since I started working when I was 14.  I just wanted to be a business owner.  I’ve dreamt of owning my own business since I was 14 years old. I thought that all business owners had a lot of money.  The ice cream store was in the neighborhood I grew up in.  I was excited but had no idea how to run a business. I ended up losing my life savings that summer. I was devastated and felt like a loser.  I never thought about getting a job.  I wasn’t sure what I was going to do next and then another business fell into my lap.  My mentor at the time(who I never told about the ice cream store) knew someone selling a cleaning company.  He said it would be perfect for me.  My son had just turned 1, I was still in college, and now I was broke.

Even though I was extremely busy, I've always had the entrepreneurial itch and so I jumped into the cleaning business.  This was only possible because I was able to finance the business over the next 5 years.  I had no money, only my work ethic.  My mentor vouched for me and so my journey into the cleaning industry began.  It was a multiple six figure loan that I had agreed to repay in 5 years.  Again, I had no idea what I was doing.  I just wanted to be a business owner.  This was an enormous loan for me and did cause me to be even more stressed out since I was now expecting my second child. I was still broke, had a large loan to pay off, one child with one on the way, and still in college full time. My daughter was born a year later.

I only stayed in school to keep my mom happy. I’m glad I did though because it was a huge accomplishment.  I did eventually graduate after 7 years and I was the first in my family to get a bachelor’s degree.  Although I was very proud and always worked hard, I found myself busier than ever because I was trading time for money.  I thought to myself, there must be a better way.

My Story

"You don't have to be great at something to start, but you have to start to be great at something."

- Zig Ziglar

The beginning...

I was recruited into network marketing when I was 25. I knew instantly that this was what I was looking for. I decided to go full time in my network marketing business. I only made a few thousand dollars my first year after working 50 plus hours a week. After a few years I was still struggling to make any significant income. Even though I was “all in” and I was following the “system”, I was still struggling. I wasn’t making enough money to support a family. Everyone thought I was crazy! I wanted to quit. Now, with two children, trying to graduate from college after 7 years, a huge business loan to pay off, a student loan, and after a few years of going full time in my network marketing business, I was frustrated and was burning out.

What next?

I needed this to work so I stuck it out and made it work.  During my first 10 years I went to every major training event throughout the country, got on every conference call, read as many books as I could, and even overcame my fear of public speaking.  I eventually did my own opportunity meetings and conference calls on a weekly basis.  I made decent supplemental income, but I never made the ‘BIG’ money that I was dreaming of and seeing other people make.  I found myself working harder than ever but still not making the ‘BIG’ money.

It wasn’t until my sponsor told me about a new company that he just joined.  It was a start up and I had zero interest.  I told him NO for a year.  Since we were good friends, he knew that I was not making the ‘BIG’ money, even after 10 years of hard work and dedication.  I thought that people would look at me as a quitter if I left (and they did).  But that was the best business decision that I ever made.  Within 2 years, I was able to build a residual income that was larger than after my previous 10 years.  This was a game changer & obviously a team effort.

Over my 16-year career I’ve seen and been through it all… the good, the bad, and the ugly.  I really didn’t make any significant money my first 10 years.  It was great part time money, but the problem was that I was working it full time.  After about 5 years in the second company, they decided to get rid of their network marketing division.  We then joined another company that ended up getting shutdown by the FTC 7 months later.  So, within 7 months two companies shut their doors on us and our income stopped.  This was a very challenging time for me and my family since we just built a new house.  I found myself going through a second divorce.  I lost belief in the industry but most importantly I started to lose belief in myself.  I love helping people and I have a lot of good friends that are making millions of dollars in the industry, I wasn’t sure if it was ever going to happen for me. I wasn’t sure what I wanted anymore.

Those first 10 years were about working on myself.  I had a lot of growth to go through, as we all do.   With my second company, those 10 years of hard work and dedication paid off exponentially.  I had 10 years of preparation.  We focused on developing leaders.  And we developed a lot of leaders in a short period of time.  I personally recruited over 250 people and we built an organization of over 30,000 customers and representatives and generated a six figured income.

I went from a 10 year mediocre network marketer making thousands (sometimes tens of thousands), to making a solid six figure income within my first 24 months.  I became a top producer and income earner in that company.  I became a company trainer and trained on stage in front of thousands of people.  In total, I’ve earned over a million dollars in my network marketing career.
